Who We Are |
Who We AreOn June 7, 1917, the Association of Lions Clubs was voted into existence with a mission of providing services to the less fortunate and working for the betterment of communities and the world. The Association became international in 1920. Today, the International Association of Lions Clubs is the world's largest active service organization. The Jefferson (MD) Lions Club was chartered on May 11, 1999 with the charter celebration held on June 7, 1999, the 82nd Anniversary of the Association. Preventing blindness through research and services is the principal goal of the club. In its brief history, club members have identified and implemented many humanitarian service projects, participated with fellow Lions throughout the community in a Lions awareness program, and conducted several fundraising events. The Jefferson Lions are actively recruiting new members and have established provisions so that parents with small children can become involved as members. Membership opportunities are extended to service-minded individuals who endorse the words of our founder, Melvin Jones, "Maybe I'm finding out that you don't get very far unless you start doing something for somebody else." The Jefferson Lions have been collectively working to establish a presence within the community while honoring the Lions motto, "We Serve." Dedicated to providing service to its community, the Lions are making a difference in the Jefferson area. Jefferson is located in historic Frederick County, approximately eight miles south of Frederick City, fifty miles west of Baltimore, and forty-five miles northwest of Washington, DC. The Jefferson Lions are located in Multiple District 22-W, Region III, Zone II. |
